What inspires you about being a business owner?

WHAT WAS THE CATALYST FOR YOU TO OPEN YOUR BUSINESS?

Owner: Julie (She/Her)

After working for a few companies where I feel I was not being heard, I wanted to be my own boss to have more creative control over the projects I was working on. I also wanted to be able to earn more income and feel like I have limitless room to grow.

What is a struggle you overcame?

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR BETTIES WHO MAY BE GOING THROUGH A SIMILAR SITUATION?

Owning your own business is a LOT of work. I put more hours in than any other job I have but it is also more rewarding. At the beginning I was always feeling overwhelmed and like I was going to mess something up. I have learn to reach out to others for help. We are so lucky to have this great community of ladies to bounce ideas off of. If you are struggling, identify your strengths and try to source out your weaknesses, we can’t do it all ourselves and be successful. There comes a time we have to give up a little control and though it has been hard for me to do this, the outcome is much better for my health. Also, remember burn out is real so take time to reward yourself for your hard work.

what is one way you enjoy taking care of yourself outside of your business?

I try to relax by crafting, learning new crochet techniques or just slather on a nice face mask once a week. I try and reserve some of my day on Sundays to do NO work and unplug. Sometimes that means having a nice glass of wine or just relaxing on the patio with my fiancĂ©. I take a % of my monthly profit and put it into a ME or FUN fund, so I don’t make excuses to not treat myself a little. It helps keep me going!

How do you currently help the local community?

I plan to develop a few candles and donate a % of monthly sales to a local charity. I think giving back is so important. When I have free time I do like to crochet. I try to make a handful of hats and other pieces to donate to local charities that give them to the homeless. I truly believe we are all potentially a few steps away from being homeless (especially with how expensive it is to live in Colorado) so I try to be extra sensitive on this topic.

what's a gift you would recommend from your shop?

Candles are a great gift for anyone that loves them. I especially love my wooden wicked candles, as the soft crackling relaxes me. I would pair one of my candles with some bath items for a great relaxing gift.
